The AEP part in the application’s name is short for Anti-Exploit Protection. CrystalAEP is a security solution that was designed with a simple goal in mind: to protect the user’s machine from all the various nasties that lurk online, such as viruses, hacker attacks, and malware. To do this, the application generates an environment that’s hostile towards worms, malware, and other malicious code.

The CrystalAEP installation file is only 4.2MB in size, so getting it onto your computer will take little of your time. Installing the application on a Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7-powered machine will not take long either – it’s a simple matter of running the 4.2MB file and clicking through a setup wizard.

When you launch CrystalAEP for the first time, you will be presented with a short, 6-page tutorial that explains how to enable and disable the application, how to set a protection level, and how to add applications to the list of protected software. You’re very well advised to go through this tutorial to familiarize yourself with the CrystalAEP application.

There are two main panes on CrystalAEP’s interface. The pane at the top presents a list of monitored processes, the one underneath presents the latest alerts. At the top you have a traditional File Menu while at the bottom you have a slider that presents the anti-exploit protection level.

Traditional antivirus applications rely on signatures to detect threats – and as new threats are constantly uncovered, these antivirus applications need to be updated frequently. CrystalAEP does not work like that, it does not rely on signature updates to detect and protect your system from security threats. CrystalAEP creates an environment that is hostile to security threats like viruses, worms, and other malware. This means that CrystalAEP can protect against novel security threats for which there are no signatures yet.

CrystalAEP is freeware, meaning you won’t have to part with your money to use the application. What may put you off using the application though is that it is in Beta. The developer explained that most Beta testers did not have any problems with CrystalAEP. We, at FindMySoft, did; while using CrystalAEP, COM Surrogate kept crashing.

CrystalAEP can prove to be an efficient tool in protecting your system from malware.

Pros

CrystalAEP comes with a floating window from which you can access the application’s interface. You are presented with a tutorial when you launch the application for the first time. CrystalAEP protects your machine from viruses, worms, and other malware. CrystalAEP is freeware.

Cons

Still in Beta at the time of writing this, and Beta has the tendency to be buggy.
